Using colored dye on your dog - What do you think about this latest trend?

I'm sure most of you have either seen or heard about dogs being dyed different colors (pinks, purples, blues, etc.) - but what do you think about this latest trend?

Cici the Poodle from Boulder, CO

Recently a salon owner in Colorado was fined $1000 by the Boulder Human Society for using pink dye on her poodle named Cici.  Boulder, CO has a strict law on using dye on any pet (mainly to prevent people from coloring rabbits and chicks around Easter time).  But, after looking further into the situation the controversy became that she might not be using safe, non-toxic dye on her pooch and could have used dye intended for humans.  She stated that the reason she uses pink dye on her poodle is to raise money for Breast Cancer research and her poodle being pink is a conversation starter for her cause.

Sometimes people will use beet juice to dye their dogs pink, but the latest trend is using a dye formula instead of all natural foods/juices to change the look of their furry friends.  On the market today you can actually buy non-toxic, approved dog dye in different colors (keep in mind these formula's still come with a warning label!) -- but, why would anyone attempt to use human hair dye on a dog that could possible lick and ingest the toxic formula?!  If a pregnant woman is recommended not to dye her own hair because of what it could do to her unborn baby, it makes me wonder what it could do to a curious dog....

What do you think about this topic? Let us know!

I think this fad is stupid. I cannot understand why on Earth you would dye your dog. Animals are not accessory. If you want something pink to carry, then buy a purse.

Well she was doing it for a great cause for breast cancer awareness. It didn't harm the dog in any way. I am not a fan of dying dogs I have 16 of them and wouldn't do it to mine but it was a harmless thing so I don't think we should be so quick to pass judgment on her because she is obviously spoiling her dog and giving her a great home. We should focus more on the animal cruelty such as pit bull fighting and puppy mills!!!
      Thanks

    Hi,

I think that this was rediculous about the lady dying her dog pink. It was my understanding that she used beet juice so it was not harmful to the dog. I have never dyed my pets and will never do so but I think she rescued the dog if i am not mistaken so she obviously is giving the dog a great home and they should be more concerned with true animal cruetly instead of someone taking great care of their pet. I understand your point about toxic dyes but she used a product that was not harmful to her dog from what I heard on the news. I hope they leave her alone and let her continue to love her pet. I am sure she won't dye her dog again though.

I'm actually sick of hearing people complain about people dying dogs hair. As long as you're using something like manic panic or another pet safe dye than there is no problem. (I don't dye my pekingese btw lol) It's really no different than putting some ridiculously absurd collar,or a dress,or suit on the dog. You put in the dye and wash the dog....=/ Real painful. O.o come on people it was meant for novelty. I'm sure your dogs think putting so much effort into making your face taste bad is stupid too(aka makeup lol) I could think of worse things...Like the owner not caring at all and letting the dogs coat become matted into a shell?

Well, I don't understand people dye or make hairdos to their pets. You know I'm fond of Psychology and read a lot of books (by the way, I found a lot of really interesting books). So, from the point of view of Psychology such actions can be explained in both way. Either they percept their pets like toys and it is a pity if they do. Or people percept them like themselves, like people. And it is here where we have to know where to stop because sometimes what can be safe for a human can be dangerous for the animal.
